RAM 1500 Oil Type

RAM-1500
The RAM 1500 is famous for its flexible performance and impressive towing capabilities, making it a popular choice among La Joya drivers. One of the best ways to ensure your RAM 1500 retains its exceptional power and handling is through regular maintenance and oil changes. But, with such a large engine lineup, many drivers need to know: What is the recommended RAM 1500 oil type? Get all the details about what kind of oil you need for your RAM 1500 engine with Burns Mission before visiting our service team for a RAM 1500 oil and filter replacement!

What is the Recommended RAM 1500 Oil Type?

The RAM 1500 has a long history of capable performance around Penitas, with each generation boasting improved engine options to help you take on the roads ahead. Due to the diverse powertrains offered throughout the years, no single oil type can cover all the available RAM 1500 engines on the market. Always check your owner’s manual for detailed information on your specific model before replacing your RAM 1500 oil filter and oil.

That said, for the latest generation of the RAM 1500, drivers can expect their gas engines to recommend SAE 0W-20 or SAE 0W-40 full synthetic oil. For diesel engines, 5W-40 full synthetic oil is recommended. If you have any questions about your specific engine, feel free to reach out to Burns Mission’s service department for our recommendations.

Conventional vs. Synthetic Oil

When shopping for your new RAM 1500 oil filter and oil replacement, you may notice two types of oil on the market: Conventional and synthetic. While similar, these two types of oil act very differently in your engine, and can impact your pickup’s performance on the Palm View streets. See the difference between conventional and synthetic oil below to see why the recommended RAM 1500 oil type is always synthetic:

  • Conventional Oil: Also known as “regular” oil, conventional oil is the basic petroleum substance that has been used in internal combustion engines for decades. Distilled from crude oil mined from the ground, this oil is designed to protect your truck’s engine from high temperatures and reduce overall engine wear.
  • Synthetic Oil: Synthetic oil is very similar to conventional oil, but the formula has been altered to provide superior lubrication properties and a longer lifespan. When you use synthetic oil instead of regular oil, you can expect enhanced engine power, better turbocharger part protection, and more reliable engine performance in colder temperatures.
